Speaking at an interaction on schools as zones of peace on Wednesday in Bhaktapur organized by the Education Journalists´ Group, Bhaktapur chapter, Sharma said the government was planning to bring policy to take action to those resorting to vandalism and organizing shutdowns in the academic institutions.

He also wished for supports from political parties, teachers, students, parents and bodies concerned to make the schools as zones of peace.

Army opens new school in Chitwan

Nepal Army chief General Chhatra Man Singh Gurung inaugurated Sainik Awasia Mahvidyalaya, a boarding high school, at Chainpur VDC-4 in Chitwan on Tuesday.

Though the school is located in Chitwan, students from across the country can study there, the army said in a statement. The school has admitted 120 students including 40 girls this academic session. Among them 41 are the children of army servicemen.

“Until now, we did not have regional-level high school in the central region and this void has been filled,” General Gurung said speaking at the opening ceremony of the school. Nepal Army has been operating five such high schools across the country.

The army has been operating central-level high school at Sallaghari, Bhaktapur for the past three decades. Also, the army runs schools in Dharan in the eastern region, in Pokhara in the western region, in Surkhet in the midwestern region and in Kailali in the farwestern region.

Bimal Kumar Kshetri, the principal of the school, said that the school will add classes every year.

The school has been housed in the same building that previously housed the Holyland International School. The army had bought the school building and the 10 bighas of land owned by the school. All the boys in the school are boarders while the girls are dayscholars and commute to school from home every day.

The school is an English-medium one and operates through a trust.

Chicken dearer by Rs 15 per kg

Poultry entrepreneurs have raised the price of dressed chicken by Rs 15 per kg effective from Monday, citing low supplies.

With the fresh adjustment, wholesale price of chicken in capital has reached Rs 250 per kg. Similarly, price of live chicken has increased by Rs 10 per kg to Rs 185 per kg.

A joint meeting of based poultry farmers, entrepreneurs and wholesalers based in the capital took the decision. Janga Bahadur BC, president of National Chicken Sellers´ Association, said they had to raise prices due to low supply.

“Though the demand of chicken normally goes down from mid-July to mid-August, as many people do not consume meat during the holy month of Shravan, we had to raise prices after supply dwindled,” added BC.

According to the association officials, demand for chicken generally drops by 10 to 15 percent during summer. “Still, we have been failing to meet the demand because of low supplies,” they said.

Daily consumption of chicken in the capital hovers around 200,000 kg to 250,000 kg.

Retailers in the capital source chicken from local farms as well as from Dhading, Kavre and Chitwan, among others.
