Police have been escorting vehicles carrying Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) after locals took control of three vehicles loaded with Himal Gas cylinders at Sallaghari, Bhaktapur, on Wednesday.
The police escorted the vehicles on Thursday after gas dealers demanded security while loading LPG.
According to MPR Spokesman DSP Dhiraj Pratap Singh, locals of Dallu tried to obstruct the LPG loaded vehicles this morning. But the police foiled the plan.
"Following the Bhaktapur incident, gas dealers demanded security, so, to avert any unwanted situations, police have been escorting vehicles," Singh said.
LPG shortage has affected life across the country since early January.
The shortage is likely to last until February as supplies of LPG have been at the level of 11,000 tonnes in January, fifty percent of the requirement.
The Nepal Oil Corporation said LPG import has been increased by 800 tonnes per day from Monday. The country requires 20,000 tonnes LPG monthly and the demand reaches 25,000 tonnes in winter.
